You are looking for cookware because you are a new homemaker, wanting to buy the necessities, or you are a homemaker who needs to replace your present cookware, because it is time for a new set. We have all been in this fog of confusion about just what to buy. Cookware can be as inexpensive or expensive as you want it to be. The feeling is that if you are spending any kind of money on new cookware, then it should have a few necessary features. The cookware should bake and cook foods well, and have a balanced distribution of heat. It should be easy to clean up without destroying the cookware or having to let it soak overnight. It should stand up well to repeated use and look good at the same time. It should not have to be seasoned, and it should handle high heat well, without destroying the surface.

One kind of cookware to look at first and foremost would be ceramic cookware. Ceramic cookware answers all the necessary features one should have when purchasing cookware. Even though looks is at the bottom of the necessary requirement list of features, ceramic cookware will give your kitchen a sparkle of added color. These pots and pans are not something that you need to hide; they make the kitchen area look attractive. Cookware such as Teflon or cast iron needs to be seasoned occasionally before use. Ceramic does not need to be seasoned.

There are a few good tips when buying ceramic cookware. Some brands are made with a clay base, and this makes them prone to breaks and chips. Most times there is a cast iron center to the cookware that is covered by enamel. Over this enamel, a glaze made of porcelain and molten glass is applied. This prevents chipping, cracking, scratching and breaking. This causes the cookware to be highly durable. The surface of this cookware affords very easy cleanup with no soaking or scraping off of food residue. All that needs to be done is a gentle wiping off of foods. If something does end up sticking, then a scouring powder can be used or a scrubbing pad. There is no need to be afraid of scratching or destroying the surface. This durable cookware is even dishwasher safe. There is no cookware that is manufactured against abuse. Ceramic is no exception. With abuse by rough handling the cookware can break or chip, although you should not have this problem with normal use.

Ceramic cookware can be used effectively on gas stoves, electric burners, and glass top stoves. They are appropriate for microwave cooking. The one stove that you cannot use ceramic cookware on is an induction stove. You can use only metal cookware on induction stoves. Ceramic cookware should not be heated without food inside. As with any cookware, ceramic cookware should not be slid across the glass top stove surfaces, they will scratch the stove.

Just like any cookware, ceramic will burn the skin. One must take precautions to handle hot pots and pans appropriately to keep from getting injured. If your countertops or table is not made to withstand high heat then please use a trivet or a couple of pot holders underneath before setting on surfaces that are not made for heat.
